Stayed at the WoodyHead Campground in Bundjalung National Park for two nights from the 4/11/2002 - 6/11/2002. Bundjalung NP is about 70 kms south of Ballina. We decided to take our All Wheel Drive down onto the beach for a test drive in sand and we were going really well until we decided that we had had enough and headed back through the sand dunes to the road. Due to the drought, the sand dunes are like powder and we discovered that Subaru's do not have enough ground clearance to get through huge grooved tracks with a high bank of sand in the middle created by 4x4's with greater clearance. We where really bogged, but luckily the park rangers drove down the same beach access road about 5 minutes after we had given up trying to dig our way out. Due to the high stress situation of being bogged we did not remember to take any photos. However, here are some pre stress shots. At the town of Iluka there is a rain forest walk the you are not allowed to ride your bikes on. It was great fun the we did not get caught. Ferry ride back to the main road after a side trip to nowhere. Ulmarra crossing. Light house at Byron Bay. There is something about light houses and the Dickson family, they can not go past them (the picture below might shed some light - sometimes know as biggest dickus evny - they don't call him Big Al for nothing). It was a beautiful view. |
